Chicken nesting or laying boxes have come a long way in recent years. We are no longer limited to a choice of just a few. There a re now a wide range of laying boxes for Chickens from which we can choose. From a simple homemade box to state of the art nesting boxes from the makers of the famous space age Chicken coops..

Our choices are now very large. What all laying boxes have in common is that the nesting box dimensions are always large enough to accommodate the Chicken easily. Making the entry to the box to small will severely limit the use. While the box itself does not have to be to large, only large enough for the Chicken to fit inside, the opening should not restrict any movement.

To this end it is always advisable to ensure it is large enough that your Chickens will not choose to lay outside of the laying box. Chicken nesting boxes should also have a nice layer of material at the bottom that will safeguard the eggs and ensure that the box is easier to keep clean.

A laying box for Chickens can be made form recycled materials if there is a tight budget. From old crates to washing up bowls, even tires could make a nice laying area and are readily available. Why not try filling an old tyre with some straw. Chickens will see this as ideal if you have the space to accommodate such a large area.

How to build a Chicken nesting box does not always have to be complicated, sometimes simple things can be the best.
