It isn’t hard to get started in collectable bottles. Collecting old or antique bottles has been done since the Phoenician period in ancient Roman times. The Phoenicians were the people who discovered the art of glass blowing. However, not all of them were not made from glass; they were made from clay as well. Today when we think of bottles we usually assume that they are made from glass.
The art of glassblowing was an incredible discovery. It helped move the world in a new direction of progress and evolution. Glassblowers would force air into a blowpipe to help form the red hot liquid into elaborate hollow shapes. The Romans took great advantage of these glassblowers; and had them glass make containers of all types of shapes and colors. Many thousands of years later, glass revolutionized the bottle world as we know it. Bottles are used for storing and transporting many types of drinks such as wine, sodas, milk and beer. The older these bottles become the more valuable they become. Some had to be designed a certain way in order to produce particular results from the contents. As time passed cork lids were used to help wine ferment.
Even today, some old bottles found in old abandoned garbage dumps, which were designed to use cork stoppers, can be very valuable. Collectable bottles can include a company’s name and date stamped on it; because many of these companies are no longer in business.
If you are fascinated in antique collectable bottles and would like to start your own collection, you can start by visiting yard sales, flea markets, and local antique shops to get an idea what type of collectable bottles to look for. It is a good idea to do lots of research on the internet to find out all you can about collecting. You can even visit some websites where you can purchase authentic antique bottles.
Collectable bottles have been produced by companies especially for the reason of becoming valuable in the future. Companies such as Avon would manufacture almost exact replicas of trains, cars, famous people, and many other types of bottles for this reason; and after a certain number were manufactured they would discontinue them. This would then make them more valuable every year afterwards.
A beginner collection does not have to consist of just drinking containers; they can be of perfume bottles, such as collecting perfume bottle dolls, or bottles which have a unique design about them. Some collectors have collectables that are of a certain color. Starting your own collection can be both rewarding and sometimes a little expensive; however, it is most enjoyable. A collector can display their bottles with pride in their homes; and can have a very popular business as well. They can also take their collections to antique bottle shows around the country.
