Not too long ago, the technology of computers and their printers, screen platesetters and an imagesetter were not very sophisticated. The print that was done on a computer printer was only in black ink and was not particularly clear. It was also printed on a specific type of paper with holes along the sides to fit into the special printing equipment. If you were planning a wedding and needed to get invitations, you had to go to a paper shop and custom order them to be printed.

Also, if you were having a big party that you needed to send other kinds of fun invitations out, you had to go to a store as well. This all was expensive and often took 4-8 weeks to get everything printed out. If your charity was having a special event or your small business needed a sign, you also had to go to a business that made signs. When you wanted to make a personalized gift for a relative this too had to be specially ordered and took a couple of months to complete. All of these things now can be done at your own at home in a shorter time frame for a lot less money and will be completed immediately.

If you are planning a wedding, one of the first things that will set the tone and offer the guests an idea of what kind of wedding it is going to be is usually based on the type of invitations sent. Many brides are now doing the invitations themselves using special software for just that purpose and a good quality laser printer. This allows the bride to really customize an invitation that they want and can create. If they have certain colors that they wish to incorporate for their wedding, they can be done on the invitation rather than the old traditional ivory card with black print.

This also can be done for other celebrations or events where you want to print out invitations like a special anniversary, a sweet 16 surprise party or a graduation party. Some people just buy the card that is already made at a hobby shop or stationary store and then fill in the information about the party and print them off at home. In fact, stationary stores now sell all of the things you would need to make your own invitations and stationary in their shops. There are still people that like to order the old way too rather than trying to figure out how to make their own.

Personalized gifts using family photos are also a great thing you can make from your own computer and printer. Items like photo calendars or photo enlargements that can be framed are all things that can be done at home. Also, pictures printed on special paper that can then be ironed on fabric like a t-shirt, canvas bag or apron are also great ideas for a personalized gift for someone special. A lot of the things needed to make these are found at a hobby store.
